Blend Battle: Nightcore and Djent Production

As a teaching assistant for Laptop Ensemble, I sometimes get the opportunity to participate in class challenges. This particular challenge was a blend battle, where students were given two genres and asked to create a production that blends them. I was introduced to nightcore, the internet phenomenon of speeding up songs in tempo and pitch, which has evolved into a genre, and djent, a fast-paced, technical progressive metal style characterized by palm-muted guitar and double kick pedal patterns.

I thought joining the genres would be exceptionally difficult because they are both so fast. I opted to create a small traditional Nightcore song that abruptly transformed into a sped-up djent track.

I took this opportunity to be creative with AI production. Using Moises and Suno, I created additional samples for drum cymbals and the short Indian classical transition between the styles.
